Introduction

Throughout his career, Boretz kept in constant communication with his agents, actors, directors, other writers, professionals in various fields, and loved ones. This exhibit displays a sampling of the abundant correspondences within the Alvin Boretz Collection. These items range from personal messages to difficult rejection letters, so this exhibit serves as a tool to sort through three main categories of the correspondences: professional, personal, and research-based. The rationale behind including correspondence within this digital archive is to vividly display the humanity behind this intensely driven writer and to vividly expose the difficulties that surround the profession of screenwriting.

In his decades of research and writing, Boretz made a profound impact both within and outside of the industry in a way that is reflected in the letters he received over the course of his career. These correspondences are merely a selected few from the wealth of letters available in the collection.
